What Is Google's Asset Studio in 2026?
Asset Studio is the creative workspace inside Google Ads where you generate, edit, preview and share ad assets with Google AI. Google calls it "your one-stop-shop for developing creative assets in Google Ads". In its May 2026 update Google said Asset Studio "understands your marketing brief, brand guidelines, website, and goals to instantly generate a high-quality range of assets across multiple creative themes and asset types", which you can refine "using natural language".
The 1 October 2026 news is a narrower and more practical point. In an Ads Decoded episode about Demand Gen creative, Google's three takeaways included this: "Try Asset Studio's multimodal video creation. Powered by Gemini Omni, it turns your website URLs and photos into high-quality videos that stakeholders can preview before you publish." For a business without a video team, that is the line worth testing.
| Date | What Google published | What it added |
|---|---|---|
| 10 September 2025 | Asset Studio launch post | Image generation with Imagen 4, product-in-scene images, bulk edits "for up to 100 photos at once", style references, video from images and text, shareable assets and ad previews |
| 20 May 2026 | Google Marketing Live update | Brief- and guideline-aware generation, natural-language refinement, Gemini Omni video "soon", 1-Click A/B Testing; "rolling out globally in English this summer" |
| 1 October 2026 | Ads Decoded episode on Demand Gen creative | Multimodal video creation powered by Gemini Omni, turning website URLs and photos into videos stakeholders can preview before publishing |
Why Does Website-to-Video Matter for Small Teams in 2026?
Because video is where YouTube and Demand Gen inventory lives, and video production is where most small advertisers stall. Google's 1 October episode was explicitly aimed at advertisers for whom "producing high-impact assets for YouTube feels overwhelming". If a tool can turn the website and product photos you already have into a draft video that someone can review before it runs, the barrier to testing YouTube drops sharply.
Google's first takeaway from the same episode is just as useful: "Start with what you have. Your existing creative, such as social assets, is probably a solid base. (As long as it follows our asset specs and guidelines.)" Many Indian D2C brands already have a library of Instagram and Reels content. That library is the starting point Google is recommending, before any generated video.
How Do You Use Asset Studio for Video in 2026?
Google's 1 October post describes the capability but does not give step-by-step instructions, and the Help Center pages we reviewed do not yet document a website-to-video flow by that name. What is documented is the set of Demand Gen video tools that sit alongside it, which are worth knowing because some are switched on by default.
| Tool | What Google says it does | Default in 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Video enhancements | Creates additional versions of your video, for example "a vertical video based on your horizontal video" or "a shorter video that better captures user attention in the first 5 seconds" | "Enabled by default for any new campaigns" |
| Pre-generated videos | Creates videos from image and text assets when a campaign has only image ads; suggests three templates (horizontal, vertical, square) to review | Suggested on the campaign review page; you choose whether to use them |
| Auto-generated video ads | Generates video ads in multiple orientations from your text, images and brand guidelines | "Enabled by default for any new campaigns" |
| Asset Studio multimodal video | Turns "website URLs and photos into high-quality videos that stakeholders can preview before you publish", powered by Gemini Omni | Not stated |
Pre-generated videos have stated minimum inputs: "1 logo, 2 images, 2 generic texts (Demand Gen min requirement: 1 Headline, 1 Description), 1 business name". If your campaign does not meet those, the system cannot create the video.
Who Can Use Google's Generative Creative Tools in 2026?
Eligibility is restricted, and the rules are written down. For manually prompted image generation in Google Ads, Google's Help Center says your account must be using the Google Ads interface in "English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, or Spanish", must be "active and been running ads for at least 30 days", must have "a history of policy compliance", must not have completed Election Advertising Verification, and must not be "advertising in a sensitive vertical". Google adds that capabilities are "rolling out gradually to eligible advertisers".
Two practical consequences for Indian advertisers follow. An English-interface account can qualify, but a brand-new account cannot use its own prompts until it has run ads for 30 days. And Google's May 2026 update said the new Asset Studio features were "rolling out globally in English", so English is the language to plan around. Google has not published India-specific availability for Gemini Omni video in Asset Studio.
What Does India's AI Labelling Requirement Mean for Generated Video in 2026?
It means a generated video may need a label, and Google says so itself. Google's Demand Gen generative AI page states: "AI regulations in the European Union, India, and New York require that ads with certain AI-generated or edited assets include disclosures and/or labels that inform consumers that the ads were made with AI." Google offers an AI label setting in Google Ads and other tools, and adds that using it "doesn't guarantee your compliance with specific regulations".
In India this sits alongside ASCI's new guidelines on labelling synthetically generated content in advertising. Our ASCI AI labelling guide covers what those guidelines require and when they take effect. The short version for anyone generating video in Asset Studio: decide your labelling approach before the first generated video goes live, not after.
How Should You Test Generated Video in 2026?
Google's own advice in the 1 October episode is restrained: "Make changes gradually and focus on the quality of new assets rather than quantity, which will give the system sufficient time for measurement." That cuts against the instinct to generate fifty variants at once. The May 2026 update also mentioned "1-Click A/B Testing" in Asset Studio to "find what performs best based on your goals".
- Start with existing creative that meets Google's Demand Gen asset specifications.
- Generate a small number of videos from your website and best product photos, and review every one before publishing.
- Check product accuracy. A generated video can misrepresent a product; you are responsible for what it shows.
- Apply AI labelling according to your obligations.
- Test against your current best video, change one thing at a time, and give the system time before judging.
What Are the Common Mistakes With Asset Studio in 2026?
- Assuming every account can prompt its own images. Google requires 30 days of running ads, policy compliance and a supported interface language.
- Missing the defaults. Video enhancements and auto-generated video ads are enabled by default for new Demand Gen campaigns.
- Publishing without review. Google built previews for stakeholders; use them.
- Skipping AI labels. Google itself names India among places that require them for certain AI-generated or edited assets.
- Generating volume instead of quality. Google advises gradual changes and fewer, better assets.
- Ignoring the creative you already have. Google's first recommendation is to start with existing social assets.
